On 24 January 2022, Damiba led a coup deposing and detaining President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo.
On 30 September 2022, Damiba was ousted by the dissatisfied army elements headed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
