Nine in ten events now have a place on the map, event dates follow one clear rule, states show the flag they flew in the year you are reading, and the atlas comes in a light theme and a deep navy dark one.
- Events with no coordinate of their own are now marked at the place they happened, drawn fainter over a ring so you can tell. Nine in ten events appear on the map, up from about half.
- Event dates are now chosen by one rule instead of by chance. The American Civil War reads 1861–1865 (it read 1865), the Great Northern War 1700–1721, and treaties sit at their signing. About two hundred events changed, and the Wars of the Roses, the Suez Crisis and others that had gone missing are back.
- Where Wikidata's only date for an event is plainly wrong, the atlas follows the event's own article and says so beside the dates: the Phoney War ran from September 1939 to May 1940, not until 1958.
- States on the timeline, in the list at the cursor and in the preview card show the flag or coat of arms they flew in the year on screen, credited to Wikimedia Commons.
- A light theme, and a dark theme in deep navy. The switch is in the header; until you choose, the atlas follows your system setting.
