Ukrainian places and the princes of Kyiv are now named the Ukrainian way, and the Scythians, the Sarmatians and the East Slavic tribes have entries of their own.
- Ukrainian place names are now spelled the Ukrainian way: Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, the Dnipro. The princes of Kyiv are named as Ukrainian historiography names them: Volodymyr the Great, Ihor of Kyiv, Danylo of Halych. More than 200 names changed.
- Quotations and article titles keep the spelling their authors used, and where a name differs the panel also shows Wikidata’s English label.
- Search finds either spelling: typing “Kiev” finds Kyivan Rus’.
- Kyivan Rus’ now flies the trident of Volodymyr the Great on the map, as struck on his coins, from his accession in 980.
- Twenty-one peoples that Wikidata records without a date or a place are now entries, read from their Ukrainian Wikipedia articles: the Cimmerians, Scythians, Tauri, Sarmatians, Antes and Sclaveni, and fifteen East Slavic tribes from the Polianians to the Bolokhovians.
- Fixed: dates recorded only to the century now sit in the right century. Some sixty CE entries had been drawn a century late, and most BCE ones a century early.
- Fixed: fewer misread causes. A clause opened by “which” is now read against the phrase before it, so “the invasion of Poland … marked the beginning of World War II, which resulted in the Holocaust” no longer has Poland causing the Holocaust.
