· v2.5.1
Ukraine in 1918 is Ukraine, not Germany
- Map
- Data and accuracy
The map of 1918 drew Ukraine as part of the German Empire, because the borders dataset draws the land the Central Powers occupied after the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk as Germany's own. The Ukrainian State of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky was Germany's ally under occupation, never a part of it, and the map now draws it as a state of its own.
- In 1918 Ukraine is drawn as the Ukrainian State, from Volhynia to Kharkiv and from Chernihiv to the Black Sea, and Germany ends where Ukraine begins; Crimea is drawn as the Crimean Regional Government that governed it that year.
- The Ukrainian People's Republic now begins with the Third Universal of November 1917 rather than in December 1918, so the months of the Central Rada, the Fourth Universal and the Battle of Kruty have a state of their own; its panel says that the Ukrainian State governed in its place from April to December 1918.
- Events of 1918 on Ukrainian ground belong to whichever state stood on their own day: the Ukrainian People's Republic before 29 April and after 14 December, the Ukrainian State between.
- In 1919 the map's Ukraine opens the Ukrainian People's Republic.
- State names on the map from 1960 on are sized and placed by their own territory again: since the last release some had been read against a neighbour's.
